Abstract
I am seeking shared spaces between human and non-human agencies which can support, nurture, and leave room for the other to thrive. In navigating and mapping such spaces, I regularly encounter unexpected phenomena…My interest in collaborating to create the body of work in this thesis is to consider the histories at work within the various contributing actants. My embodiment of artistic intent intermingles with the biological history of the avian specimens in the collection, the human histories of the collectors and preparators, and the institutional history of Alfred as a place of science, ecology, and art. An exploration of these intersections has produced a body of work that speaks to my concerns for conservation and a related site-specificity, promoting opportunities for all inhabitants to not merely survive, but to thrive.
