Abstract

This study focuses on determining any structural changes that occur in a series of bioactive glasses in which Zinc (Zn) has been incrementally replaced by Gallium (Ga). Structural analysis was conducted using Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), which yielded a thermal profile of each glass. Also included in the study was whether or not the incorporation of Ga affects the formation of a calcium phosphate layer on the glass surfaces after being submerged in simulated body fluid (SBF). These glasses included Ga because of its antibacterial properties and anti-cancer abilities in vivo1,2.
