Abstract

Letter from James M. Walsh to Edmond Frechette. James Morrow Walsh (1840 – 1905) was a North-West Mounted Police officer and the first Commissioner of the Yukon Territory. Walsh was known for his strong friendship with the famous Sioux leader Sitting Bull and became famous in the American press as "Sitting Bull's Boss." Fort Walsh, a National Historic Site of Canada, and Mount Walsh, a mountain peak in the Saint Elias Mountains in the Yukon, are named after him.
