Abstract
The primary theme of my work is how the interaction between gender identity and expression can be seamless or contradictory. I explore craft, design, identity, and the body through my work in clay. There are particular assumptions about dishware that keep it a functional object in the domestic sphere. By creating vessels that subvert those expectations, I bring awareness to our gendered categorization of objects. My work is attractive and seductive. It begs for touch and exploration but does not fulfill the desires it induces. In this way, the work subverts expectations of dishware and the role it plays in relation to our bodies and spaces.
