This line of thought led me to the genre of women’s travel narratives from Victorian England, and from there I narrowed my focus further to include women who traveled to non-English-speaking countries outside of Europe. I wanted to make the genre of early women’s travel writing more easily accessible while also calling attention to the ways in which marginalized groups interacted. No easily-accessible, thorough anthologies of Victorian women’s travel narratives existed before this project.
