What happens when information moves into a different framework / technology / media? What aspects get amplified, diminished, resonated, distorted, shifted, remapped, or broken? Self expression is not of interest to me, I am more interested in what is revealed when something is pushed to its limit. How does this activity of translation make us question and reimagine our conventional ideas of proper use and aesthetic value? As Marshall McLuhan famously said in 1964, “the medium is the message”. Now more than ever we all need to retask ourselves with becoming literate of our cultural landscape. Content enacts itself differently upon us depending on the medium or form it takes. My practice reflects heightened sensitivity to what is generally invisible to our perception of the everyday.
