This thesis focuses on how gender is portrayed in popular video games, and aims to determine whether or not there is a friendly atmosphere for both genders in the gaming world. A mixed-mode approach was used, including auto-ethnographic research and a content analysis of three video games. By entering the gaming community, research could be done on Dragon Age Inquisition, Mortal Kombat X, and FIFA 16. The results show that video games reproduce a sexist environment by creating an under representation and sexualization of female characters, and by not placing value in feminine traits.en_US
